frequently asked questions pertaining to wigs, hairpieces and related products
-- including how to measure, wear and care for them.
1. How do I determine if I need a "petite" or "average" size wig? Most people wear "average". If in doubt, click here for instructions on how to measure your head. 2. Can the wig be made bigger or smaller to better fit my head? Yes, all wigs can be adjusted to fit your needs, by tightening or loosening the Velcro tabs, located in the back. If your wig is still too large, secure it with bobby pins.
At Lori's Wigsite we are able to custom size

3. Will wearing a wig ruin my natural hair? Wearing a wig will not damage your own hair! Some women feel more comfortable wearing a wig cap for security reasons. A wig cap can also be used by those with long hair that needs to be secured back. 5. Can I wear my wig while cooking and using the oven? When cooking, please be sure not to open the oven, dish washer or BBQ, while wearing your wig. Also, try not to expose the wig to any other heat source, such as a blow dryer, curling iron, flat iron, or even the clothes dryer, etc. 6. How do I put on my new wig? The two ear tabs must be centered; the wig should sit right at your natural hairline. It should be worn behind the ears, not over them. Pull the nape of the neck all the way down. Tuck excess hair behind your ears. Always tease the front of the hairline down towards your face and trim bangs if needed. Basically, tease the hairs in the direction you desire. First, gently pick or comb wig out thoroughly before washing it. Then wet wig completely with cold water, work shampoo in and leave in for 5 minutes. Then, rinse it out with cold water and thoroughly blot dry with a towel. Follow with conditioner; leave it in for 5 minutes, rinse and towel dry. Leave the wig on a towel or wig stand to dry over night at room temperature. Do not comb or brush your wig when it’s wet! When it is completely dry, simply brush into your desired style. ~To remove hair spray build-up from your wig or hairpiece, place 1/4 cup of baking soda in a bowl (or sink basin) with COLD water, let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse out, then follow above directions for shampooing and conditioning the wig as normal. 8. How often do I wash my wig? Wash your wig after wearing it 10-12 times. 9. How do I wash and care for my new 100% Human Hair wig? Place Human hair wig on wig stand, before wetting or washing, brush from ends to roots, section by section. Use luke-warm water or cold water only. Spray wig carefully, starting at its ends and continue up to the roots. DO not Brush. Press excess water carefully from the hair using your fingers. Place a small amount of wig Shampoo into palm of hand to gently press it into hair shaft starting at the ends and working up to about about two inches away from the root area. Rinse with running luke-warm water. Squeeze out excess water. Do not brush or comb, or rub hair in circular motion during shampoo process. Place wig Conditioner into palm of hand and proceed to gently press it into the hair shaft starting at ends and working up to within two inches of the root. Begin brushing hair carefully from ends up to root, until hair is completely brushed. DO not comb. Rinse wig from the roots to the ends, using luke-warm water only. Blot dry with towel. Brush very gently, from hair ends to root. Place on wig stand and allow to air dry. Natural air-drying is best to maintain hair quality & shine. Your wig may be styled by rollers, or use a blow dryer. Once completely dry use a curling iron or flat iron on the lowest setting only. Important! Allow wig to dry naturally! To restyle your human hair wig, you may use a blow dryer, flat iron or curling iron (on the low heat setting). Or you may use steam rollers. Spray on a "leave in conditioner" to your human hair wig; every other day to keep it moist. More Tips... 1. When brushing, always start brushing at the ends working up to the root area. Always brush gently, excessive brushing or force will cause hair breakage. 2. Friction from couch or pillows may cause the hair to tangle (use a silk pillowcase). 3. ALWAYS rinse root area well. Conditioners or shampoos remaining at the root area will cause bacteria to grow, ultimately, the hair will break off. 4. Hot or very warm water will damage the hair shaft, causing the hair to tangle and look dry. Always use luke-warm water. 5. When you remove your wig, place it on a wig stand to maintain the shape. 6. SWIMMING- Always wear a cap. Chlorine will cause the hair to become dry & brittle and tangle. The wig must be washed and conditioned immediately following. 7. Sauna- Wrap hair in a cold, wet towel before entering. Let air-dry. 8. Sleeping- NEVER Sleep in wet hair. Hair should be completely dry before retiring. For best results, remove wig before sleeping. 9. Exercise- We recommend first brushing hair thoroughly from the ends to roots. Spray with La Gem leave in conditioner, proceed to create a few large braids or brush hair into a ponytail (secure with coated fasteners). Hair should be shampooed following intense activities. 10. Can I use regular mousse with my new wig? You can use regular mousse daily on synthetic and human hair wigs for extra body and a more natural look and feel. 11. Can I send in a hair sample for you to match my color? Yes, Lori's Wigsite will be happy to help you select the right color by matching your hair sample to the closest available wig/hairpiece color.
